Roaming Car service
The Roaming Car service operates overnight and can provide a range of palliative and end of life care in your own home.
What is the Roaming Car service?
Blythe House Hospice’s Roaming Car service enables nurses to go to people’s homes where they have an urgent need overnight. Our nurses and healthcare assistants can provide a range of care for patients, including those with symptoms of pain, breathlessness, restlessness and anxiety.
Where does it cover?
We provide care for people with a Derbyshire GP living in the High Peak, Derbyshire Dales, Chesterfield or North East Derbyshire.
Who does it care for?
We care for people who have a life-limiting illness, this includes conditions such as cancer, heart disease or lung disease.
What time does the car run?
The service operates overnight from 8pm until 8am, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It also runs 24-hours-per-day at weekends.
Who provides it?
The Roaming Car service is provided by Blythe House Hospice. We are a hospice with a base in Chapel-en-le-Frith, but we provide care across North Derbyshire.
Who do the team work with?
We work collaboratively with GPs, community services and many other health and social care providers. We also work closely with other night time service providers such as 111 and district nurses. This ensures that patients get seen by the team best placed to help them as quickly as possible.
How is the service funded?
Blythe House Hospice is a charity. We rely on financial support for the community for around 70% of our annual spending. Our Roaming Car service receives some funding from the NHS, but is dependant on donations from local people and business sponsorship for over half it’s annual running costs.
